SummerSeas Coffee Chronicles
As someone who appreciates good coffee I decided on a whim to start a wiki page here devoted to coffee tasting. I clearly remember the best coffee experience of my life. It was at an upscale restaurant in Atlanta called The Canoe about 9 years ago in 1998. That coffee was a solid 10 on my coffee rating scale so coffees I rate here will be compared to the perfect coffee from The Canoe.

Grinding
I have a Cuisinart blade grinder with a bin that has marks to show you how many beans you need to grind for the amount of coffee you want to make. When I grind enough for 4 cups it seems like a lot so I usually make 6 cups when I grind for 4 cups. I like strong coffee so I think the grinder isn't really very accurate.

Tested Coffees

Bean Trader Hawaiian Kona, Whole Bean

  • This coffee was perfect! Very rich coffee taste and roasted to perfection as I would expect from bean traders. Very expensive but this coffee is as good as the coffee I tried at the Canoe; maybe even better.

Kroger 100% Columbian, Whole Bean

  • This coffee was maybe a little above average for a store brand medium dark roast.

Bean Trader Toasted Coconut, Whole Bean

  • This coffee was really very good for a flavored coffee. The flavor is added in the form of little bits of real coconut roasted with the beans. It's one of my favorites and moderately priced at around $10 per pound.
